Shape from Lectric Panda
Shape from Lectric Panda is a utility that was originally designed by Lectric Panda and was released as a separate Rack Extension. While synchronous was more an effect process generator where the curve could also be used as an external control voltage output. Shape, on the other hand, is all about that idea yet take it towards a whole different level. When I originally bought Shape as a utility to sculpture a sound in all kind of different ways, I started making use of this device more often especially in terms of Genres like Ambient music, IDM, Breakcore, and Glitch. Part of the beauty lies in the way you can reuse the same pattern, yet do it differently while the waveform progresses over time. So from an evolving point of view, that is pretty much perfect for the genres I just mentioned.

Deep House Pad in Propellerhead Reason
Welcome back to another article about the Genre Deep House. In this specific article, I will be mainly focusing on Pads. While Pads in the Genre Deep house are not that common in the old school deep house songs (since they are all about making things sound like disco). During the modern days, Deep House started to lean towards the more ambient type of pads just to get a dreamy feeling into the genre itself. A deep house pad can go in different directions and angles. Since if you take an empty track that contains just a bass line, a few percussion elements it the pad drives the mood. Then you can already think about the idea that a pad is almost like the carrier of the full song. Some pads can be mysterious, others can be moving, it can also be resonating and sometimes you will need a more bright pad (to stretch it towards a more uplifting mood). This is partially why making a Deep-House pad can sometimes be a hard job to do. Because if the tone is wrong, the mood can also be wrong.
Polymodular build Pulse
The following modular synthesis build I want to share today is based on the Polymodular system, using most of the devices from that system. The oscillator is the VO-1 (which is similar to the Vk-1 Viking synthesizer but then without the use of filter and envelopes). The benefit of the VO-1 oscillator is that it also contains a tuning fork at the rear of this device. Which can be great once you want to have a different pitch per note. This can be handled by using the 8 audio outputs while using the little tuning knobs to tune the audio outputs individually.
The cancelled Europa Refill project
Here you go, boys and girls. The canceled Europa Refill that should have been made but is not going to be finished for the time being. In the last 4 months, I have been working on creating patches for Europa. I sometimes turned it on, and sometimes I skipped a few days. My main goal here was to focus on a wide variety of different patches ranging from Leads, Pads, plucked and bass sounds. While the project is officially been canceled on the 28th of April 2018 I am going to drop a download file of the patches that have been created so far (but are unfinished).
The basics elements of deep house music
Welcome back to another series of House music in Reason. In this article, I want to start off with writing down the basic ideas what the genre Deep House is all about. While I have originally written a complete article about the genre house music itself, deep house borrows elements for this genre while mixing it with a blend of jazz or blues elements. In short, it uses the percussion elements of house, while adding on top of this the usage of acoustic elements like piano's, Rhodes, or Pianets (where the latter two are acoustic electronic instruments). In the early days of Deep House music, it has some bridge between Gospel vocals. In the modern days, the Gospel is replaced with traditional vocals. Deep House is also known as a minimalistic type of House music. It usually consists of a bassline, some chords, and some deep sounding pads with a touch of a groovy percussion set. While using these elements it also comes with a lot of emotion (=deep). The mood for this would be more relaxing, hypnotizing and chill with a groovy element.
Europa Shape shifter video series
Welcome back to another a small video tutorial series about Europa the Shape shifter in Propellerhead Reason 10. In this small series I will briefly talk about what Europa is and touch the more interesting subject like how to deal with sound design using Europa. In the first video I will briefly touch the subject on that Europa is a wave table synthesizer that can reshape the wave table by using the shape knob. Then there are the different modulators to throw the sound in a whole different direction. What makes Europa kind of unique is the spectral setup that comes with it. Since at some extend you will be touching the additive realm with this one. The sound will then pass on to the unison and the audio filter. The last chain of events are the effects.
Thor in Reason workshop
Welcome to a new video series about Thor in Propellerhead Reason. In this series I will touch different elements on how to do sound design in Reason. This complete series will be going through some basic elements first trying to answer most of the 'basic' questions that people may be having when looking at a device like Thor for the very first time.
I'll be going in depth about the following items to start with:
Envelopes and LFOs
Europa Shape shifter for Reason 10
Last Friday the Propellerhead team held a live stream session on Facebook. While there are tons of reasons why Facebook is not the ideal platform from a sound output perspective it is quite clear why they went for this medium. Because of the social aspects and the liking and sharing stuff no one really cares about. On a personal note, I missed the live session totally because I already knew that the feed would be uploaded to youtube later. So I sat this one out.
Creative reverb techniques
Welcome back to yet again another article about Propellerhead Reason. Today I felt like looking at Reverb in different ways. While I have touched the ideas on creative reverb engines in a whole wide range of articles (I'll see if I can link those up in the related section) the once I will post today are based on two different ideas. The first one is based on the Fender Reverb engine which uses panning elements to reshape the sound. The second one is a more creative route where I wanted to have a 4 stepped reverb type that gets picked up by resonating reverb engines (ow boy...). Everything I will be touching is based on what the original RV-7000 can do. No convolution stuff is being touched so far so I will assume (big assumption right now since I haven't tested it) is that everything should still work in Reason 4 and Reason 5 even.
Pulse Width Modulation in Thor
Pulse width modulation in musical terms is a method to reshape a pulse from a wide pulse to a narrow pulse. It usually is handled on a Square wave form and most often a repeating pattern is used to modulate the width of the pulse itself. This often results in to a character sound where it sounds like the wave form itself is constantly in motion. This technique is often used to thicken the sound. In this article we'll be discussing different methods to do Pulse width modulation in Thor in Propellerhead Reason.
Nostromo 2 Spectral Synthesizer
Welcome back to another article about a Rack Extension. In this article we'll be looking at Nostromo 2 from Lectric Panda. Nostromo 2 is a Spectral Synthesizer. The idea with this concept is that the user can define up to 9 different wave form slots and as a result this can become a complete waveform in a sequence. In theory this could be seen as a custom made wave table synthesizer where you set up wave table plays back. Every waveform in wavetable is defined by a wide range of spectra (hence the name of this synth). The playback takes place is defined by a wide range of LFOs (and there are a lot of them). This could be done by using a XFade setting which cross-fades between the different wavetables in the sequence or it could done by jumping from one wavefrom to another.
