I am Hydlide of ReasonExperts.com. In this article, I want to share an idea on how to create an analog synthesizer using Thor inside Propellerhead Reason. While the idea is nothing new (since I have talked about this technique in for instance creating a Moog synthesizer in Reason and while making video presentations like creating an analog synth using subtractors). I am always a fan of perfecting different ideas and this is just one of those moments. Since there is one setting, in particular, I find very useful to emulate the idea of analog style synths. And this would be the setting voice key. The idea I am going for is based on different ideas I did in the past but do something slightly different.

Polymodular systems build Complex

While I have been working on a few different ideas to make a patch inside the Polymodular systems there is one thing I haven't tried myself yet, so... time to do it. First of all, let me share my thoughts before I am going to provide the whole concept as I have made this one. Normally if you take an instrument that contains an envelope the envelope will be used per voice. While in theory, you can manipulate envelopes (and what they do) inside the Polymodular systems. So they do not always have to listen to a single note or key. They can also be set up different. With that idea in mind, I thought of one easy method to 're-trigger' the envelope (and thus retrigger the envelope on all keys while they are still playing). This can be done by using 2 different distributors. One for being the normal 'sequencer' while the other acts more like an envelope re-trigger device. If you would then think about the number of options in that realm... let me not even start there.

Polymodular Systems Build Dirt made in Propellerhead Reason 9

Here is another Polymodular system build made in Propellerhead Reason 9. The main idea here is to make use of Movement as a waveform generator. Which can be nice from time to time because it allows you to 'sweep' through the different parts of the waveform itself. The technique is similar to the TableOscillator from WizAudio. The only major difference here is that the PolyModular system is way cheaper vs the TableOscillator. At the same time, the Polymodular system from Blamsoft can do so much more (just being honest and direct about it).

Electric pianos in Reason

Welcome back to another creative sound design topic. Today I am going to create myself an electronic piano that is based on a wide range of different theories. While some electric pianos (like the Rhodes for instance does) uses hammers that strike a metal plate which then goes through an amplifier. This has a similar character and concept when playing, for instance, a Vibraphone. Major differences there is that a vibraphone uses different sticks, while the Rhodes piano uses a type of hammer and the sound output will go through an amp.

Polymodular Build Native

I am really having a blast with these poly modular synths as you can tell. The following build was just another idea to use native VO-1 Viking oscillators to trigger Frequency modulation. While sometimes I have a feeling that FM in the VO-1 feels odd (because it sometimes 'resets' itself, where I am not sure where this is coming from). But by doing FM just gentle it works fine and makes a pretty aggressive tonal character. I like FM in Thor, I also love FM in Blamsoft eXpanse. Sometimes I tried to do some FM inside the VK-1 (the synthesizer counterpart of the VO-1 Oscillator).

Polymodular build Pulse

The following modular synthesis build I want to share today is based on the Polymodular system, using most of the devices from that system. The oscillator is the VO-1 (which is similar to the Vk-1 Viking synthesizer but then without the use of filter and envelopes). The benefit of the VO-1 oscillator is that it also contains a tuning fork at the rear of this device. Which can be great once you want to have a different pitch per note. This can be handled by using the 8 audio outputs while using the little tuning knobs to tune the audio outputs individually.

The cancelled Europa Refill project

Here you go, boys and girls. The canceled Europa Refill that should have been made but is not going to be finished for the time being. In the last 4 months, I have been working on creating patches for Europa. I sometimes turned it on, and sometimes I skipped a few days. My main goal here was to focus on a wide variety of different patches ranging from Leads, Pads, plucked and bass sounds. While the project is officially been canceled on the 28th of April 2018 I am going to drop a download file of the patches that have been created so far (but are unfinished).

The basics elements of deep house music

Welcome back to another series of House music in Reason. In this article, I want to start off with writing down the basic ideas what the genre Deep House is all about. While I have originally written a complete article about the genre house music itself, deep house borrows elements for this genre while mixing it with a blend of jazz or blues elements. In short, it uses the percussion elements of house, while adding on top of this the usage of acoustic elements like piano's, Rhodes, or Pianets (where the latter two are acoustic electronic instruments). In the early days of Deep House music, it has some bridge between Gospel vocals. In the modern days, the Gospel is replaced with traditional vocals. Deep House is also known as a minimalistic type of House music. It usually consists of a bassline, some chords, and some deep sounding pads with a touch of a groovy percussion set. While using these elements it also comes with a lot of emotion (=deep). The mood for this would be more relaxing, hypnotizing and chill with a groovy element.
